Fruit Orchard
Observing an apple tree that this year produced only a single apple, one realises how much the climate has changed. Once, during winter, snowfall was frequent and the harsh temperatures guaranteed the natural cycle of rest for plants.
Today, however, snow is increasingly rare and winters are unusually mild. At the same time, spring often brings sudden frosts, just as the buds begin to open.
These temperature swings damage the flowers and burn the young buds, preventing the tree from producing fruit.
These phenomena, caused by climate change, are having a real and visible impact on fruit cultivation. Many growers find themselves facing poor or even non-existent harvests, despite their constant care of the trees.
In cases like that of the apple tree with only one apple, it becomes clear how unpredictable and unstable the climate has become.
It is an important signal: nature follows delicate balances that are altered by global factors such as global warming. In the face of these events, we often can do nothing.
Yet there remains the awareness that what is happening is not the result of chance, but of our collective actions on the planet.
